About Basildon Side By Side

Basildon Side by Side is envisaged as a radical social movement that seeks to improve the quality of the lives of those living, working and visiting Basildon Borough. Its foundation principle is to see our diverse communities creating and owning solutions to local challenges, generating local confidence and capacity, which in turn, enables people to tackle the problems that they face. It seeks to ensure that communities own the right to say what is “good”; to determine the priorities; and to have a formative voice in what is happening. These will be the shared fundamentals of local social enterprise and investment and the basis of forging a better future for the Borough.

Basildon has enormous potential and this is an opportunity to synergise, galvanise and maximise this, so that people can see beyond their existing expectations. Moreover, it goes beyond these to focus on realising more ambitious aspirations for their communities and the Borough as a whole.Basildon Side by Side will bring the Basildon Borough communities together to work in co-production with Basildon Borough Council, its partner organisations, businesses and other stakeholders to find solutions that will improve all aspects of life for those living, working and visiting the Borough.

Past Events

Thanks to the National Lottery fund awarded to Basildon Side By Side, we were able to host a live International Women’s Day that brought diverse women together to celebrate our diversity. The funding came at the perfect time because without it, we would have held the event online line. The live session did significant justice to the 115th IWD anniversary. Thank you to everyone who attended. Thank you once again to the National Lottery Fund for once again believing in Basildon Side By Side. Join us for our next event! St. George’s Day!!!!

Thematic Groups Notices

The thematic working groups are the engine room of Basildon Side By Side (BSBS). These thematic groups are tasked with developing and delivering projects aimed at improving the lives of BAME groups in Basildon and to ensure that BAME groups continue to integrate and make meaningful contribution to all aspect of the society in Basildon and beyond.

The thematic groups are involved in Educational Development , Heath and Wellbeing , Policing and Hate crime, Community Cohesion , Economic Developments and improvement of lives of Young People in the community.

Empowering families through skills acquisition seminars, encouraging school Governors and to sensitize BAME communities to take up leadership positions in the Borough starting October 2023

HEALTH
Basildon Side by Side invites you to a free Drop-in Health Check at George Hurd Centre 7 Uadley Way Basildon SS14 2FL on Sunday 4th September 2022 from 3pm to 6pm. You will get basic physical health checks like Blood Pressure weight height Blood sugar etc, and mental advice.Please come with your friends and family. – Health and Wellbeing Thematic Group. Weekly drop in sessions to check people weight, BMI, Blood sugar checks, offered mental health advice but BAME Health professions in each of the 5 towns in Basildon Borough starting 4^th of September 2022
POLICING

Meeting with Police and Fire service on ways to attract more BAME officers into the services.

COHESION

Planned Black History Month on 15^th of October 2022, Indian Divali on 22^nd October 2022, Ndiigbo Festival on 26^th of November 2022, Anniversary of BSBS launch on 25^th of January 2023, St Georges Day in APril 2023, Basildon Communties Festival in une 2023

ECONOMIC
BSBS are placing members with local BAME stores, to gain work experience. BSBS will support members with transport and lunch expenses daily. If you are interested please let us know on 07811314093 asap as there is limited capacity.
YOUNG PEOPLE

To bring young people from diverse BAME groups together in a workshop to share information about culture, cultrual practices like cooking, sewing bead-making and dance – starting November 2022.

Key Objectives

Create an enabling and supportive environment for everyone to grow and thrive based on the guiding principle of co-production, with the Council as an ‘enabler.’
Create an Inclusive Basildon Borough for everyone
Look beyond division to achieve unity and cohesion.
Create an environment that enables communities to positively assert themselves in promoting their own development and that of Basildon Borough.
